Jazz and Classical Saxophone Performer
Professor at the University of Costa Rica and the Ministry of Public Education

José David Solano Garro currently works as a professor of saxophone at the University of Costa Rica – Caribbean Campus, and as a professor of Music Education and Saxophone at the Ministry of Public Education.

He completed his bachelor’s degree in Saxophone Performance at the University of Costa Rica and a Licentiate degree in Saxophone Teaching, graduating with honors. In 2024 he earned a master’s degree with an emphasis in Jazz Performance from the National University, with an honorable mention cum laude.

He won third place in the 2008 Pan-American Saxophone Competition in Mexico City, and was a five-time winner of the honors competition organized by the EAM UCR (University of Costa Rica). In 2009 he received an award from the Rector’s Office of the University of Costa Rica as an outstanding student for representing the country and the university internationally.

He has performed as a soloist with ensembles such as the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica, the UCR Symphony Orchestra and the National Saxophone Ensemble, among others. He has been a member of prestigious groups such as the LA Big Band de Costa Rica, Erick Sánchez y su Orquesta and Orquesta La Solución.

In 2025 David was invited to perform as a soloist at the Michoacán Jazz Festival. That same year he launched SaxRoomCR on Instagram and TikTok, to share educational content for the study and training of saxophonists.

He has played the saxophone in countries such as Mexico, the United States, Colombia and Nicaragua.
