Anton Chekurov
Anton Chekurov is a representative of the community of jazz musicians commonly referred to worldwide as “young lions”. These are not just masters who know jazz in all its fullness at a deep academic level: they are artists energetically and confidently creating the music of tomorrow. Building on the jazz tradition and using a wide range of compositional tools from past decades, they are still full of their own ideas, able to convincingly and vividly bring them to life in sound, and have no intention of stopping their self-development. Their art is always a living jazz evolution that one can observe in real time.
He earned a master’s degree from the Gnesin Academy of Music. He plays lead alto in Igor Butman’s Big Band. He has recorded two albums as a leader: A Beautiful Mind (2020) and Ad Astra (2024).
He has shared the stage with outstanding musicians, including:
• Wynton Marsalis and his orchestra
• Kurt Elling
• Tony Momrelle
• Allan Harris
• Frank McComb
• Alina Engibaryan
• Chris Potter
• Richard Bona
• Till Brönner
